BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF COVER

This is a risk management option that provides farmers with financial protection against agriculture production losses.

It covers:

  • Crops against drought, excessive rainfall, hail damage, windstorm, flooding, frost damage, fire, uncontrollable pests and diseases 
  • Livestock against losses due to accidental death, diseases of terminal nature, epidemics, emergency slaughter on vet advice of a recognized veterinary surgeon and theft of livestock in raising units
  • Warehouses (tractors, harrow, thresher, roller, combine harvester)
  • Greenhouse against fire, lightning, impact damage, theft after burglary and related damages, water from reservoirs and/or water tank, windstorm, excessive rain, hail (including weight of ice).
  • Forest insurance covers the destruction of trees as a direct consequence of fire, hail, malicious acts, impact, earthquake, windstorm. 

INFORMATION REQUIRED FOR ISSURANCE OF COVER/QUOTATION

  • Crop Insurance - Crop proposal form, crop grown, area grown (acre/ hectare), season, location, expected yield, value of the expected yield, cost of production, market supplied to, desired cover (yield, cost of production), loss experience process of going on cover, filled proposal form, crops valuation and/or inspection.
  • Livestock Insurance - Proposal form, number of animals, milk or meat, breed, identification, age, value, location, compliance with local, veterinary vaccine program, loss experience
  • Greenhouse Insurance - Proposal form, number of animals, age, value, location, compliance with local, veterinary vaccine programme, loss experience

CLAIMS PROCEDURES AND DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

  1. Peril notification by the insured
  2. Copy of ID (NIDA, Driving License or Voters ID)
  3. Claim assessment by crop inspector
  4. Claim settlement at the end of the season/ cover
