NMB Bank PLC has won the best blended finance partner in Africa for banks working with International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group.

The award recognized the bank’s efforts on financial inclusion, an award that positions the bank as the champion of financial inclusion in Africa. The award is from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group.

NMB Bank wins this award because of its wide branch network and its reach to the smallest parts of Tanzania helping people from the remote areas to access banking services.

 Receiving the award from the IFC Resident Representative for East Africa - Dan Kasirye, The NMB Bank’s Acting Managing Director - Ruth Zaipuna said "We are exceptionally pleased to receive this prestigious international recognition for our achievements; a testimony of our investment in technology while expanding our branch network and strengthening our ability to deliver innovative solutions to the market."

Ms Zaipuna further said “in the past 4 years, we have introduced innovative products and services and have continued to meet customers’ needs across the country and managed to fill the gap that other banks have left in the market.”

“We currently have the widest network in the country with 228 branches, over 800 ATM’s and over 6,000 NMB Wakala (agents), making our availability 100% in all the districts in the country.” She added.

On his part, the IFC Resident Representative for East Africa - Dan Kasirye said NMB Bank has won the best bank in Africa Award for providing blended finance (mixed products) that goes to the lower end customers.

“NMB Bank is the champion of financial inclusion in Africa outshining all other banks that have worked with IFC. They have shown their ability to include women, micro, small and medium enterprises and small and medium enterprises as well as agriculture financing in Tanzania.” He said.

NMB Bank for the past 12 months, has won two other international awards – Best Bank in Tanzania by Euromoney Awards for Excellence, Best Retail and Best Commercial bank in Tanzania by the Banker East Africa Magazine. The bank has won some domestic awards namely Occupational Safety and Health (AOSH) award 2018 – in the financial sector category and the recently awarded Best presented financial statement 2018 by the National Board of Accountants and Auditors.
