NMB Bank has reaffirmed its position as an industry leader with its recent win as the Bank of the Year – Tanzania for 2017 by the Banker Magazine.

At the award ceremony organized annually by The Banker magazine held at Hilton Bankside - London, NMB Bank was named ‘Bank of the Year - Tanzania’ for 2017, outshining over 40 others in the country to win the prestigious award. This is the third time that NMB has won this award; the first time was in 2013 then in 2014.

This is the second time NMB Bank is scooping an international award after it won two awards at the Euromoney 2017 Awards for Excellence where the bank was named the Best Bank Transformation in Africa and the best Bank in Tanzania five years in a row.

"We are extremely pleased to once again be recognized for our achievements," said Ineke Bussemaker, the NMB Bank’s Managing Director. "We continue to invest strategically in our technology, distribution network and strengthen more our ability to deliver innovative solutions to the market."

In the last 12 months, Ms Bussemaker said “the Bank has introduced innovative products and services and has continued to meet its customer finance needs, thereby filling the gap that some other banks had left in the market.”

Ms Bussemaker said that the bank’s investment in technology has allowed significant expansion in product mix and distribution channels offering relevant banking solutions to customers while improving customer service.

Luke McGreevy – The Publisher for Middle East and Africa from The Banker Magazine said the Banker’s judging panel all in one voice endorsed NMB Bank as the most progressive over the 12 months not only in terms of the banks strong financials, but also in the wide range of initiatives which the bank undertook during this period.

A publication of the Financial Times newspaper, The Banker is a global financial intelligence magazine that provides global bank ratings and analyses and is the definitive reference on international banking for high level decision makers globally. According to the magazine, the aim of the award ceremony “is to highlight industry wide excellence within the global banking community.”  One winning bank is selected from participating banks in each of the 120 countries from which entries are received for the competition.
