The Vice President, H.E  Samia Suluhu Hassan will deliver the keynote address at Women's World Banking’s Making Finance Work for Women Summit, a global event on 24-25 October 2017 in Dar es Salaam. Ms. Hassan Suluhu will open the two-day program, featuring leading international experts driving the innovations in women’s financial inclusion.

Local co-host NMB Bank Plc (NMB) will join global NGO Women's World Banking to welcome 300 executives from the financial services, consumer products and technology industries as well as investors, philanthropists and government representatives from more than 30 countries. Participants will examine the best practices in researching, designing and delivering products to low-income women.

“More than one billion women around the world do not have access to formal financial services. We are honored that Vice President Samia Hassan Suluhu joins us to welcome global leaders who are harnessing the latest technologies and innovative approaches to reaching these women,” said Mary Ellen Iskenderian, President and CEO of Women's World Banking.

The Making Finance Work for Women Summit will feature speakers committed to reaching low-income women, including Ineke Bussemaker, CEO of NMB Bank Plc, who will join the opening plenary session. According to the most recent World Bank Global Findex data, only 17 percent of women in Tanzania have an account at a formal financial institution. NMB and Women's World Banking are currently working together to better understand the banking needs of women and youth throughout Tanzania and to design financial products that meet those needs.

“We are thrilled to co-host this esteemed event with Women's World Banking. We welcome experts from around the world to our home in Tanzania, and look forward to the opportunity to share and learn from colleagues at the forefront of delivering vital financial services to women,” said Ms. Bussemaker, who serves on Women's World Banking’s Board of Directors..

The Summit agenda will include interactive sessions on digital financial services, human-centered design, consumer segmentation, inclusive policy and regulation, gender lens impact investing, and diversity and inclusion in corporate leadership. Joining Ms. Bussemaker on the speaking program is Gladness Clara Deogratias, Head of Foreign Exchange Trading at NMB. Ms. Deogratias will speak about how gender diverse leadership drives both innovation and greater outreach to women.

“The remarkable range of participants joining us—from behavioral scientists to FinTech disruptors—is a testament to the growing realization that women are the most dynamic market segment in the world,” said Ms. Iskenderian. “Low-income women represent a tremendous market opportunity, and delivering financial services to women is an undeniable imperative for economic growth in Tanzania and around the globe.”
