Dar es Salaam, 14/04/2016. NMB Bank has signed a partnership with the STICHTING MEDICAL CREDIT FUND(MCF).  In working together, NMB Bank and MFC intend to provide affordable loans to private hospitals, health centers, and medical services providers of up to $1m aimed at boosting health servicesin the country.

NMB Bank becomes the first bank in Tanzania to enter into such partnership with MCF to suppor tthe Health Sector in the country. NMB Bank and MCF will cooperate to implement healthcare financing, broaden and strengthen the quality of healthcare provision in the country. The partnership will give healthcare providers access to finance including a special technical assistance package which will help players to identify suppliers of quality medical equipment, training for medical practitioners and service quality improvement.

NMB Bank is the leading bank in financing Micro Small and Medium Enterprises in Tanzania cutting across various sectors. NMB Bank is currently serving some of the MSME customers in the health sector and would like to expand this.  A good understanding of this sector is needed in order to support the good quality, sustainable players.  MCF has the knowledge and experience and will provide guarantees, NMB Bank will provide the financing.  NMB Bank and MCF are partnering to expand the market and reach out to a much wider community for healthcare financing.

Under this partnership, qualifying hospitals will be able to get loans ranging from $15,000 to $1m equivalent to Tanzania shillings 30m to 2 billion.Speaking after signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), The NMB Bank Managing Director – Ms. Ineke Bussemaker said the partnership has come at the right time and will contribute to increasing access to affordable basic healthcare and will help build sustainable health providers by providing more loans.

The MCF CEO MsMonique Dolfing-Vogelenzang said the signing of the MOU is crucial in realizing the funds objectives of increasing access to affordable basic health delivery in Tanzania.

“Access to investment capital has been a challenge in many African countries and impedes the provision of affordable health delivery especially when looking on the context of building sustainable health systems. With this MOU signing, we are happy that many private hospitals, health centers, dispensaries will have the capacity to invest in modern and sophisticated health apparatus, and we are very delighted to do partner with the largest bank in Tanzania because we believe that is the only way to penetrate into the deepest of areas across the country” said Ms. Dolfing-Vogelenzang
