Sylvia joined the Board of Directors of NMB Bank Plc in December 2024.  A distinguished Tanzanian academic, policy expert, and Certified Public Accountant, she brings over 40 years of experience in academia and corporate governance. Sylvia is an Associate Professor at the Dar es Salaam Tumaini University and holds the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor for Resource Management and Administration since January 2025.  She started her academic career at the University of Dar es Salaam where rose through the ladder to Associate Professor and also served as Director of Finance and Deputy Vice Chancellor Research. Her impressive career also includes serving as the Director of Higher Education at Tanzania’s Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, where she played a key role in shaping the national education policy.

An accomplished scholar with a PhD in Business Administration from Germany, renowned for her extensive publication on financial reporting, corporate governance, microfinance, financial inclusion, and women empowerment. She has successfully led multimillion-dollar projects funded by the World Bank, significantly contributing to the development of national policies, including the National Skills Development Strategy (2016–2025), which aims to transform Tanzania’s workforce.

As a seasoned board member, Sylvia has served on Standard Chartered Bank Tanzania and CRDB Bank Plc boards, among others. She is also a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment and education, making her a trailblazer in Tanzania’s academic and policy landscape.
