Ruth Zaipuna joined the Board of Directors of NMB Bank Plc in August 2025, bringing two decades of multi-sectoral expertise, spanning Audit and Assurance services as well as East African banking leadership. 

Ruth was appointed NMB Bank’s Chief Executive Officer in 2020, becoming the first Tanzanian to lead the top-tier bank in Tanzania. Under her stewardship, the Bank has achieved record performance, accelerated financial inclusion and digital innovation, and transformed into a purpose-led organization committed to sustainable value creation for all stakeholders. 

Ruth holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from the University of Dar es Salaam. She is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-T).

 Ruth spent nine formative years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Tanzania, rising to the level of Associate Director and specializing in the audit of banks and financial institutions. She also held various leadership roles, including Executive Director of Finance & CFO at Standard Chartered Bank Tanzania. In 2017, she was appointed as Business-Finance Lead for the Standard Chartered Bank (East Africa Cluster), before joining NMB as Chief Financial Officer in 2018.

Mrs. Zaipuna brings extensive governance experience through her service on several high-profile boards. She is an Independent Non-Executive Director at Tanzania Portland Cement Company Limited (TPCC), the country’s leading cement producer, and serves as a Board Member of both the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) and the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC).
