Dr. Edwin P. Mhede joined the Board of Directors of NMB Bank in June 2020 and was subsequently elected as the Board Chairman.

He holds a Ph.D. and a Master’s Degree in Development Economics from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Tokyo, Japan, and a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness from Sokoine University of Agriculture in Morogoro, Tanzania.

Dr. Mhede is a development economist with over 15 years of experience in both the public and private sectors. He has extensive knowledge of development economics, trade, economic policy, international negotiations, and industrial research and investment.

Currently, he serves as the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries. He has previously held various leadership positions in the Government, including the role of Deputy Permanent Secretary of Trade and Investment at the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investments; Chief Executive of Dar Rapid Transit Agency (DART) and Commissioner General of Tanzania Revenue Authority.. Dr. Mhede is highly regarded for his leadership role in implementing multifaceted economic programs that foster growth in Tanzania’s public and private sectors.
